Projects and code
Projects
A project groups the ideas that belong to one product. It can point at the code the product is built in, so chat, the second reader and the sketches know how it works today, and it keeps a shelf of files every idea in it can use.
Make a project
Any of these opens New project:
- The + beside Projects in the sidebar.
- New project at the foot of the Projects page.
- New project… in the project menu of an idea’s toolbar, or of the box on Home.
Give it a name and choose Create project. The project opens. To rename it later, click its name at the top of its page and type.
Put an idea in a project
An idea’s toolbar shows the project it’s in, beside a folder, or No project. Click it and choose a project, or No project to take it out. Nothing on the idea’s pages changes.
To start an idea in a project, choose New idea in this project on the project’s page, or pick the project at the bottom of the box on Home before you write.
An idea doesn’t have to be in a project. On your list of ideas, the project menu narrows it to one project or to Not in a project. See Finding your way around.
A coding agent’s key opens every project in the workspace, and the ideas in no project too. See Coding agents.
The Projects page
Choose Projects in the sidebar to see every project in the workspace, with the repositories each is connected to and how many ideas it holds. Choose one to open it. A link at the foot (1 deleted, say) lists any waiting in Deleted.
A project’s page
Under the project’s name is one line about its code: Connected to and the repositories, each a link to GitHub, or No repository yet. Below are two tabs:
- Ideas. The same list as all your ideas, kept to this project: Waiting on you above, then Forming, Handed off, Built and Shelved, and a search.
- Files. The project’s own shelf, then every file on its ideas: its name, the idea it’s On, the other ideas it’s Also used in, and its size. Find a file narrows the list by name. Choose a name to open the file.
The chat button in the project’s toolbar opens a chat that reads across this project’s ideas. Anything it offers to do is a button you press. See Finding your way around.
The project’s shelf
A file added on the project’s Files tab, with Add a file…, is on no one idea: it’s for every idea in the project. Each of them offers it under On the project, in chat’s file list, in the File block and when you cite a quote. A block that uses one says On and the project’s name, and links to the shelf.
- A shelf holds up to 50 files, the same as an idea.
- To take one off, hover over its row on the Files tab and choose Take it off. A file on one of the ideas is taken off from that idea instead.
See Files.
Pin a project
Only pinned projects are listed in the sidebar. To pin one, open Project actions (…) on its page and choose Pin to the sidebar, or use the pin at the end of its row on the Projects page. Pins are yours alone: pinning a project doesn’t pin it for anyone else.
Project settings
Open Project actions (…) and choose Project settings. That’s where you connect the repositories the project is built in and decide what may read their code. See Repositories.
Delete a project
- Open Project actions (…) on the project’s page and choose Delete project….
- Walden says how many ideas go with it. Choose Delete.
Its ideas, their pages and its shelf go with it. The message that follows has Undo.
