Settings and billing
Your account
Your account is what’s yours in every workspace: your name, how Walden looks, the emails you get, a copy of your data, and the way to delete it all.
Find your settings
Open the account menu at the foot of the sidebar and choose Settings. The settings about you are under You. Those under This workspace belong to the workspace you’re in; see Workspaces and roles.
Name, email and appearance
- Name
- Shown beside your questions and notes, and to the people you work with. It saves as you type.
- The address you sign in with. It comes from how you sign in, so it isn’t changed here.
- Appearance
- Light, Dark, or System to follow your device. It’s remembered in this browser. The account menu has the same choice.
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Show shortcuts lists the most used ones. Every one is in Keyboard shortcuts.
- Log out
- Signs you out of Walden in this browser. It’s in the account menu too.
Emails
Walden emails you about the builds of ideas kept open to a coding agent, and about nothing else. There are five, each with its own switch in Settings → Emails, and each on until you turn it off:
- When the work is picked up. If you handed it off.
- When a build asks a question. If you handed it off and someone else runs the agent.
- When it is finished. If you can edit the idea.
- When a review sends it back. If your key picked it up.
- When it is marked built. Everyone on the idea.
Each goes once for a build, never for a single task, and never to the person who did the thing. An email carries only the idea’s title, what happened and a link to it. See Following a build.
Download your data
- Open Settings → Your data and choose Download everything.
- Keep the tab open while the file is made. Walden counts the ideas as it goes, and you can Stop.
- You get one zip file. Open its index.html to find any idea in it.
Each idea in your idea book comes as its hand-off package, with its boards and sketches, and your account comes with it: your name, email, settings, the readers you wrote and the questions you’ve asked. See Handing off.
Ideas in a team belong to the team, so they aren’t in this file. A team’s owner downloads them from the team’s Settings → General.
Delete your account
Deleting your account happens at once and for good. Download your data first if you want to keep any of it.
- In Settings → Your data, choose Delete account….
- If you like, download a copy and say why you’re leaving. Your reason is kept without your name.
- Type your email address to confirm, and choose Delete account.
Walden signs you out. What goes: your name, email and picture; your idea book, with every idea, board, sketch and file in it; your chats, the readers you wrote and your pins. A Personal plan is cancelled that day. What stays: anything you wrote in a team, shown as “Deleted account”, because it belongs to the team; and the payment records that must be kept for tax.
To leave a team but keep your account, leave the team instead, from its Settings → General. See Workspaces and roles.
What Walden keeps
What Walden collects, who else handles it and how long it stays are set out on the privacy page. The terms are on their own page. Both are linked at the foot of Settings → Account.
